Hooked to an oxygen machine, I’d never been so frightened. It was 2016 and this was my third hospital admission in the past six months. In my early 50s, my health was in tatters following two heart attacks years earlier and now I was running out of time. I was terrified of the end. But as monitors bleeped around me, a voice popped into my head. ‘Life’s for living, Mum.
