I was writing a technical ‘how to’ article for a sister title a few years back and had the necessity to phone a main dealer. The service manager I spoke to seemed aghast at the revelation that people still worked on their cars themselves. “What, you’re telling me people do oil changes on their driveways?” he spluttered, with a mocking sense of incredulity in his voice.
