There is something about a coastal garden that conjures up romantic images of azure skies and spectacular sunsets, serenaded by the sounds of gulls and breaking waves, with a whiff of briny air overlaid with flowery fragrance. On a serene sunny day, these are captivating gardens to visit and while away a few hours, or glean ideas for recreating a maritime feel in landlocked gardens, far away from the reality of challenging growing conditions and the constant threat of gales that wreak havoc amongst all but the toughest plants.
