UK MOTORSPORT’S ACADEMY AWARDS

Last year’s Sakhir Grand Prix brought home for Katie Baldwin, competitors pathway manager of governing body Motorsport UK, just what the Motorsport UK Academy could lay claim to.

She tells Motorsport News: “When Lewis Hamilton had his positive Covid test, George Russell was drafted into the Mercedes squad and JackAitken took the reins for Williams and we also had Lando Norris, all on the track at the same time.And [the] three have all come through the academy.

“That’s a really significant moment that sums up the desire to produce and provide support to those who make a career out of it and make it to the top.

“Then to look at across other areas of the sport, we’ve got Chris Ingram and Elfyn Evans: Elfyn is a graduate of the programme and Chris is still associated with the programme and his co-driver Ross Whittock, he was also [on the] co-driver strand.”
