Take those jeans off, Mum,’ Jess said. ‘You look ridiculous.’ ‘Don’t be afraid to speak your mind.’ Moira had had enough of her daughter’s caustic remarks. ‘If I don’t tell you, who will? Certainly not Dad.’ Moira bristled.
‘He and I have managed to stay friends, which sadly seems to be more than I can say about you and me at the moment!’
‘You look like a cowgirl. Don’t make a fool of yourself by wearing them in public.’ And Jess walked outside, slamming the door.
Leaving Moira with a dilemma. Should she wear them on this morning’s coffee date?
She looked in the mirror. Were the studs that bad?
A loud knock told her it was too late to change. Grabbing a handbag, and spraying on her new Chanel, she opened the door.
Robert’s face was reassuringly appreciative. ‘You look wonderful.’
‘YOU LOOK LIKE A COWGIRL’
She loved his easy-going nature. It couldn’t have made a sharper contrast to her teenage daughter’s recent behaviour.
