Declan Rice had double reason to celebrate - as he became an uncle at almost the exact moment Harry Kane scored the winning goal.

The England midfielder said his “emotions are all over the place” as he learned of the birth of his new niece minutes after the final whistle was blown.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the West Ham star said: “My brother has literally had a baby, as the second goal went in. He’s crying his eyes out, he’s had a little girl. It’s a special night all round.”

Meanwhile fellow midfielder Kalvin Phillips paid tribute to his late grandmother after England’s historic victory.

He celebrated on the pitch after changing into an England shirt with “Granny Val” printed on the back.

His grandmother died just a few months before the start of the tournament, with the Leeds player admitting she’d had a major impact on his career.

Speaking to ITV about her, Phillips said: “She was very caring, she’s very nosey, but she was a lovely, lovely woman.

“She’d be saying ‘don’t let it [his England performances] get to your head and make sure you do just as well in the next game’.”
