It could be watching the Brazilian brilliance at Mexico 70 on a tiny television, wet Wednesday nights watching the great Dundee United side of the early 1980s, seeing Norman Whiteside’s iconic left-footed curler in the 1985 FA Cup final live at Wembley Stadium, the euphoria of Alan Shearer’s goals at Euro 96 or following Wales to the semi-finals at Euro 2016.

But, such is the power of the beautiful game that for so many of us, special moments in our lives and treasured memories we hope to keep forever are defined by football.
