On the face of it, there’s not much surprising about Black Widow. It’s the eighth film to feature Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, the catsuited KGB super-assassin who defected to the Avengers, the good guys, back near the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe many, many movies ago.
It might seem remarkable that she has a solo outing at all. After all, Romanoff shuffled off in Avengers: Endgame, her self-sacrifice helping save life as we know it. But it’s a prequel, set between some earlier chapters.
Still, after seven films as a team player and, well, death, it’s rather late to have was due out in May 2020, before Hollywood hit pause on blockbuster cinema releases.
