DREAM TEAM

Nelson Christian Stokes gained fame as a member of the Jamaica bobsled team which qualified for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta. That team inspired the 1993 movie Cool Runnings, loosely retelling the story of a brave group of men from the Caribbean competing at the highest level in the world in a cold-weather sport. Chris would go on to represent Jamaica at four Olympics, but his sights were originally set on competing at the Summer Games.

A standout high school sprinter, Chris won medals in three classes for three different schools (Calabar, Cornwall and Munro), including the Class 1 100m gold medal at the Boys & Girls Champs. He continued his track career at the University of Idaho on a scholarship, and was in training for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. His brother, Dudley, was a member of the Jamaica bobsled team, and invited Chris to watch them in training in Calgary. Once there, Chris was asked to join the team,
