“The battle—over gay marriage, gay adoption, gays in the military and gays in the workplace—will be fought out court reported. “Nonetheless, there is no question that the case represents a sea change, not just in the Supreme Court, a normally cautious institution, but also in society as a whole.” Advocacy for LGBTQ+ civil rights legislation has since intensified. Twelve years later in 2015, made gay marriage legal in all 50 states, and in June 2020, discrimination of LGBTQ+ workers was barred in the workplace.
