Matariki at our place

What does Matariki mean to you? How does it connect to gardening and food activities on your farm?

Matariki is a really special time of the year for us as a whānau on our farm, Papawhakaritorito, which is situated in Kaitoke, just outside of Upper Hutt.

Matariki is a time when we really allow ourselves to slow down, reflect and plan for the year ahead. Whānau who don’t live with us on the farm come and gather to share the harvest and honour the efforts of what we’re able to produce living off the whenua. It’s a time of whanaungatanga and a time to celebrate the kaupapa that we live and grow kai by.
