BUNIONS
Bunions occur when the joint of the big toe develops sideways, causing the toe to tilt towards the other toes on the foot. ‘They appear as bony lumps at the base of the big toe and can be very painful,’ says podiatrist Tony Gavin (osgo.co.uk). Bunions are often hereditary and arthritic conditions can increase the likelihood of them developing.
