ARS BECAME the only ‘thing’ in my life that made me smile when I lost my little brother to cancer. I was six, he was three. We used to love watching my dad, a tool setter, fix his cars. His green Cortina inspired me to invite kids from our street for a ‘drive’. I’d play with the gearstick and indicators and we’d talk about where we were going. I still take any opportunity to get behind the wheel of a car.
