Whacking the golf ball across the course, I watched it land straight in the hole.
Chuffed, I turned to my dad Don, to check he was watching.
‘Well done, Michaela!’ he cheered.
At 7, I was a real daddy’s girl, and desperate to impress him.
I’d started playing golf because Dad loved it.
Got really good, too, winning kids’ tournaments.
At parents’ evenings, as my teachers went through my reports, I loved seeing Dad grinning with pride.
His seal of approval was all the reward I needed for working
