Installer of oversized art
You probably haven’t given it much thought, but hanging art can be very dangerous. That’s where Bié Venter comes in: she’s a household name when it comes to the installation of oversized art. Bié has spent her entire career hanging massive art installations that involve the use of scaffolding and suspension cables – people with a fear of heights need not apply!
One of her projects included an 8 m-high public artwork – Usha Seejarim’s , which was made from about 140 000 safety pins – at the MTN Innovation Centre. This was one of the most challenging works to assemble because it wasn’t only about handling the art but also about making sure the space around it wasn’t damaged by the scaffolding and equipment.
