THE HEAVYWEIGHTS HIT BACK AT SNETTERTON
It doesn’t take long for the British Touring Car Championship’s heavy hitters to reach the top. The three individual race winners from Snetterton last weekend – Infiniti man Ash Sutton, BMW’s Colin Turkington and the Hyundai of Tom Ingram – all prevailed across the races and the trio is now sitting pretty at the head of the standings after six races.
Snetterton’s collection of hairpins and heavy acceleration zones were manna for the rear-wheel-drive cars like Sutton and Turkington, while Ingram grabbed his chances in a controlled drive in the reversed-grid finale in Sunday afternoon.
Those who had shone at Thruxton struggled on what is a very different type of circuit layout in Norfolk but they should not feel too dejected. The Brands Hatch Indy layout is next up, and that will throw a whole new set of challenges into the mix…
Race one
From pole position, which he had inherited after Gordon Shedden’s Team Dynamics Honda Civic Type R was found to have an illegally positioned rear wing, Turkington knew that the first three miles of the opening race in Norfolk would be crucial to his chances of success.
