Since time immemorial, we have gathered around open fires. The Ancient Greeks situated their kitchens in the central courtyards of their homes. Britain may have less clement weather, but we’re equally accustomed to the idea of the kitchen as a central hearth – a gathering place where we prepare and receive nourishment, share news and stories and create new memories. The pandemic has more than ever enhanced the appeal of outdoor space, while prompting us to be more adventurous with home cooking. Now Britons are discovering the full potential of outdoor kitchens.
