Potato prices rise, despite general decline in vegetable prices

A highlight of vegetable production in April and May was that quality improved considerably compared with the first quarter. Wet weather in the early part of the year resulted in inferior produce, as well as lower volumes.

The price of cabbages decreased almost 20% month-on-month (m/m) from April to May to around R2 909/t on the back of an increase in volumes of. Prices varied, however, and good-quality cabbages traded significantly higher.
