HOW TO SMASH YOUR FIRST TRIATHLON

01 CLEAN YOUR BIKE

n efficient working drivetrain (the chain, gears and brakes) is integral to reaching your triathlon peak. To ensure it’s smooth-flowing, use an old cloth to wipe away dirt on the jockey wheels, before wrapping the cloth around the chain and turning the pedals slowly backwards. Grip tight enough so that the chain runs freely but the cloth picks off loose dirt. Then spray the chain, chainring and derailleurs with a chain cleaner, e.g. Muc-Off. Using a brush with stiff bristles, scrub the sprayed parts.
