Sporting Shooter

The .358 Threesome

WE HAD a fair drive to meet up with our mate Alan at Springsure later the following morning to head another few hours past Charters Towers to hunt the lovely chital deer.

Arriving at Charters Towers around 5pm a big feed was had before getting some much-needed sleep in a motel. Next morning we met up with Dan Smith, a good friend and guide who would be looking after us for the next four days. It was a rough drive into the property, as recent rain had made all the gullies run a banker and lots of mud and water was driven through to get there. While Dan cooked up a slap-bang meal, we got sorted out and were all ready for a look around after lunch. Getting into the Toyota, we all headed off hoping to maybe see some deer. After some kilometres we were just heading over a rise when Dan spotted some deer. Driving on a few hundred metres so as not to disturb them, the vehicle was brought to a stop.
