It’s hard to describe just how good the riding is on the St Helens to Strahan four-day epic, but it is superb. From fast, flowing twin tracks to flowing bermed-up singey, wide-open beaches and challenging, sandy 4X4 tracks, it has everything.

It includes such a wide selection of tracks that it is hard to compare with any other event. What is really liberating is the fact that the tracks are amazingly underused, almost virginal. Unlike “mainland” singey, these were not flogged out or whooped up. There is genuine gold in them thar Tassie hills.

Being able to ride for several days, get fed, fuelled and then crash in a bed at night after yarning with your mates over a beer is a treat. Call it a holiday – the scenery is breathtaking. You often have to take your eyes off the trail when wide vistas emerge as you crest a hill and see
