Hilo Trollers Tournament Results

The Hilo Trollers held their first tournament of the season on Sunday, May 2. The weather held, and the new weigh-in crew and acting Weighmaster Jason Cadaoas functioned very smoothly together. Seventeen boats were entered, and 10 landed qualifying flag fish. Three ‘ahi, 13 ono and six mahimahi were weighed in. No marlin were landed, but it was early in the season.

The largest ‘ahi and largest fish overall was a 145-lb beauty landed by the with Capt. Matt Castro and crew. The largest ono was a 33.9-lb fish landed by the with Capt. Eliot Frias and crew. The largest mahimahi was a 40.9-lb fish landed by the with Capt. Ricky Torres and crew. The earned Grand Champion Award honors and edged out the by a mere 3.1 lbs. The had a total weight of 132.8 lbs for two ono and two mahimahi. The had an ‘ahi for an 11.5-lb mahimahi. The gift certificate (donated by J. Hara Store) for the largest aku went to Capt. Chris Soares on the , for a 3.4-lb fish. The smallest flag fish, a 10.7-lb ono, was landed by the .
