The Hilo Trollers’ July monthly tournament scheduled for Sunday, July 4, was postponed due to “Small Craft Advisories” posted by NOAA Weather Service through 6 a.m. on Sunday morning. Trollers’ rules are clear: safety must come first. If a Small Craft Advisory is posted after 6 p.m. the night before the tournament, there is an automatic postponement, as participants would normally start fishing by 5:30 a.m. and captains and crew need adequate notification. The weather turned nice Sunday morning, so many captains went fishing for the holiday anyway since they were already iced down and had crew commitments. All the captains received the postponement call from the secretary graciously and the tournament was rescheduled for July 18. The results of July’s tournament will appear in the September issue of HAWAII FISHING NEWS.
