Hunger a grim reality for even more Africans

“In 2020, Africa remained the continent most affected by food crises, accounting for 63% of the total number of people in crisis or worse around the world, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification used by the Global Report on Food Crises. This was up from 54% in 2019.

The number of people in crisis or worse in Central and Southern Africa was the highest on the continent at 40,2 million, up from 32,2 million in 2019. Approximately 72% of the region’s children suffering from ‘wasting’ reside in Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Mozambique, Madagascar, Tanzania and Zambia.
