POWER LUNCH
THE LUNCHBOX: WHEN you were a kid, it was a fashionable, efficient means of transporting the goods for a delicious lunch. And let’s not forget that its coolness factor was increased by whatever was emblazoned on its metal walls and faceplate — designs or logos that advertised what you dug in pop culture. So, how exciting is it for guitarists that some of our favorite amplifier heads (and some original designs) now come in lunchbox size?!?
How did we ever get to the point that a single-handle lunch container would be reimagined as an amplifier head? Well, it seems only fitting that the Orange Tiny Terror — the first commercial, and wildly successful, lunchbox amp head (introduced in 2006) — was conceived at a restaurant. To be fair, the THD UniValve preceded the Tiny Terror by five years and was most likely the first lunchbox-style amp head, but it went largely unnoticed due to the low number of units produced. But there’s no denying that the emerging popularity of lunchbox amps can be attributed to the Tiny Terror and its many iterations, which inspired other companies to launch similarly stylized versions of this theme.
