Numismatics in Pandemic World Has Required Adjustments

The world, even the numismatic world, is slowly adjusting to the change that has been wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic that has now rolled into the second year of its disruption of society across the United States and around the world. The challenges of returning to “business as usual” are being met with accommodations to new practices. Unquestionably, I’m finding the change truly impactful where my world and that of our numismatic community is concerned.

Shows are few and far between, mostly very local. Clubs are beginning to slowly return to an active meeting state – some via Zoom and the like, others with physical attendance. Based on my experiences and observations, it appears that most clubs endeavoring to return to physical attendance are experiencing relatively light participation, while those going with the electronic or virtual approaches are experiencing quite positive and somewhat enhanced participation. The pathway to the future may well feature an effective blending of the two.

Here’s a glimpse of how I’ve worked through the past six weeks, numismatically and personally, through the end of March.
