THE XKR 400 is a car not many will have heard of, yet it remains one of the company’s most significant models from the past two decades. Although only made in tiny numbers, the car’s interior marked a new, more modern direction for Jaguar, a direction it continues to follow.

It was a car Jaguar hadn’t planned on producing, however, and was the result of pressure from its dealers for a more expensive, top-of-the-range model when the 4.2-litre V8 replaced the original 4.0 in 2002.
