A Tough Few Weeks
Hunt 1
“Could it be any bloody colder”, I said to Rob as I got out of the warm car to open the property gate. We arrived at the Central West property after midnight due to a late finish in the NSW Parliament. I was hunting with Robert Borsak and Grant Layland.
The forecast was for rain, sleet, snow and freezing temperatures – and it didn’t disappoint. We woke on the Saturday morning to pouring pain. I can also add fog to the list as visibility was around 50 metres. We decided to have a huge cooked breakfast and wait it out!
The rain eased so we headed off on the slippery tracks. We caught a large boar out in the open and he quickly took off. My first shot at the fleeing boar was at around 350 metres and my last shot was close on 500 metres. Lead in the air but no result!
We glassed the snow-covered mountain tops and soon started finding deer in the shelter of the trees. A long, steep, stalk was abandoned as the heavens opened up again. We quickly drove back to camp.
