E10 Fuel
Petrol is at present, marginally better than diesel in the guilt-ridden environmental stakes, but these non-renewable energy sources aren’t exactly the most popular at the moment. We won’t get into further discussion about electric cars and green energy sources, but one means of making petrol more environmentally friendly is to add a renewable component in the form of ethanol. This is alcohol, and it’s produced from plant materials, so it’s classed as renewable as a wind generator or a solar panel (its production also provides useful by-products including animal feed and stored carbon dioxide). Adding it to petrol is in theory, a means of making petrol look a little less horrible as a non-renewable energy source. Plus, it helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions when petrol is used in an engine.
