that's life!

Welcome!

During my 15 years as editor of this fabulous magazine, I’ve overseen lots of amazing giveaways. There’ve been more cars and cash than I could ever count, and a superstore’s worth, there was even a wedding dress given away! But I can’t remember us giving away underwear, which is why I loved the photo sent in by reader Cheryl (Page 24). Cheryl won a bra in way back in 1994. And she reckons it’s the best she’s ever had. Firstly, I’m impressed at how we could award a prize that fitted so perfectly. So a big high five to the team back then. Secondly, I’m super impressed that Cheryl could keep something in such great condition over all those years. I admit to having a few items of clothing – and underwear – that I’m loathe to part with. To be honest, it feels terribly unfair that just when a pair of undies are ridiculously comfortable, it’s time to throw them out. I asked the team if they agreed about underwear that’s past its prime. One of them commented that when Cheryl won her prize, she hadn’t even been born. Which got an ‘eeek!’ from me. Most felt the same as I do about the comfort factor of favourite undies, but no-one came close to Cheryl’s record bra ownership. It was a different story with other clothes. Sarah has had her favourite skirt for half her life. While Jude has a dress she still enjoys wearing that’s 30 years old and totally back in fashion. ‘I’d stored it away and only just realised that it looked good all over again,’ she said. And I know just how she feels. I still have the jeans I wore to travel overseas in the 1980s. I’d kept them for sentimental reasons. But the other day I walked past a trendy jeans shop and saw a pair almost exactly the same. I’d love to hear about the golden oldies in your wardrobe!
