Gold Consumption

Gold consumption soared 93.9 percent year on year to 288.2 tons in China in the first quarter (Q1) of the year, recovering to the level in the same period of 2019, according to data from China Gold Association (CGA) on May 1.

In Q1, consumption of gold jewelry surged 83.81 percent from a year earlier to 169.18 tons, while that of gold coins and bars went up 155.67 percent to 96.31 tons.

Gold used for industrial and other purposes amounted to 22.71 tons, up 20.03 percent year on
