Happy Mother’s Day!

This special issue is full of amazing Kiwi mums – from radio star Laura McGoldrick. And let’s not forget Northland mum Isey Cross (page 28), who’s become a movie star at the incredible age of 102. Now, this is the point where I’d usually rave about how my own mother is the best one who ever lived. But I’ve been telling Ineke this for about 37 years, so I’m instead going to dedicate this editorial to my sister Safia, who became a first-time mum last December, a month early, just hours before her planned baby shower in Sydney. Border closures meant Mum and I couldn’t be hands-on helpers as we’d hoped, but she’s been doing so well – and last week, with the trans-Tasman bubble opening up, we could finally fly over to meet baby Coby, who is just the most delicious creature ever created. And it’ll be the best Mother’s Day gift ever when the whole family moves back to Aotearoa this week. What a treat!
