SINCE WAYNE MAXWELL (Boost Ducati) announced he would be retiring at the end of the year, we’ve seen lap records tumble and some of the most intense racing possible.
It all started on the Friday of the so-called third round of the Australian Superbike Championship at Wakefield Park when Glenn Allerton took his Maxima Racing Oils BMW into the sub-57-second bracket. Maxwell was the only other person who could dip that low in practice, but that lap-time milestone helped set the scene for Maxwell’s crucial pole position and the vital championship point it carries.
