Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born in 1926. Her father, Prince Albert, was the second son of King George V. It was Albert’s older brother Edward, Prince of Wales, who would be the next monarch.

But in 1936, when Elizabeth was 10, everything changed with the abdication of King Edward VIII.
