FUEL ISSUE GAUGE WITH 6-VOLT

:I am the proud owner of a 1950 Oldsmobile hot rod. The gas gauge in what we both know is a 6-volt car acts erratically. The car was converted to 12 volts several years ago, but the gas gauge is believed to still be 6-volt. When the fuel tank is half full, the gauge reads way beyond the full mark.
