Q:I have a 1965 GTO with a Butler Performance-built 461-cu.in. V-8 running a Holley 850 HP carburetor and Doug’s headers. I am using a 3/8-inch fuel line with return, and a Rob MC mechanical fuel pump designed for 550 hp with a self-regulated electric pusher pump back by the fuel tank. The fuel tank has a1/2-inch pick up adapted to the 3/8-inch fuel line. I have not experienced any fuel starvation under load while utilizing the near 600 hp.
The exhaust system has electric cutouts right after the header collector. In between the collector and the cutout is the pickup for my electric air/fuel gauge, which I have mounted under the dash. I have used this gauge to jet the carburetor to run within the proper air/fuel ratios.
When I open the dumps, the gauge goes way lean, to the end of its travel. I was
