New bill could change workplace trends

THERE has been mixed reaction to a possible amendment of the Employment Equity Act which, if implemented, would change the demographics of the workplace.

In 2019, the Department of Labour announced it would be re-looking at the act to ensure that employers were complying with BEE requirements. In July last year, the proposed changes were published.

One of the most talked about clauses is the introduction of Section 15A which gives the minister of employment and labour (currently Thulas Nxesi) the authority to set targets for business.
