There are many ways to introduce light into your home. These can include removing walls that segment interior spaces, adding clerestory windows, voids, skylights, glass doors and stairwells, and of course improving transitional indoor-outdoor spaces to open up the home to natural light.
Creating light-filled rooms adds warmth and a feeling of spaciousness. Edith Paarhammer from Paarhammer Doors and Windows says there’s plenty of research that shows augmenting light levels in the home is also good for your health. “Increased levels of natural daylight boost vitamin D and serotonin levels, both of which aid mental, spiritual and physical health,” she says. “On the flipside, reduced levels of natural light may increase the incidence of depression, anxiety, ill health and can even prolong recovery from illness.”
