hen organizer and artist said she wanted to participate in ’s feature on the Black Lives Matter movement, we knew it was a perfect opportunity to bring together some of the most important and in 2013, has been a force in grassroots organizing, especially in her hometown of Los Angeles. From leading efforts to reform local jails to building artistic spaces to help her community heal from overpolicing, Cullors has become a driver of change. Even with all of her strategic advocacy work, Cullors has managed to write a memoir, and graduate with an MFA at the University of Southern California’s Roski School of Art and Design last year.
