Mornings with Jesus

MEMORIAL DAY, MONDAY, MAY 31

TODAY I SENT A BIRTHDAY card to a man I don’t know. I saw on the Aggie Network that Colonel Tom “Ike” Morris was celebrating birthday, making him the oldest living Aggie. (An Aggie is a graduate of Texas A&M University.) Aggies, current and past, share an intimate bond. A&M’s school colors are maroon and white, and it’s said that Aggies bleed maroon. For generations, everyone in my family, including me, has gone to A&M. On Ike’s birthday card, I mentioned my dad, Bill Butler, and my uncle, O. D. Butler, both from the class of 1939 and like Ike, World War II veterans. I’m fiercely proud of those men and how bravely they served.
