The area of North-East Wales encompasses Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham, which together cover most of the preserved county of Clwyd.
Its heritage is written on the landscape, from castles and hill forts, to market towns, canals, cotton mills in Holywell and Mold, ironworks, lead and coal mines, and the world-famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Today the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley remain popular tourist destinations (lockdown excepted), while Wrexham was the largest built-up area in North Wales at the time of the 2011 census.
