Although a European species of mink (Mustela lutreola) exists, it has never occurred in this country and should not be confused with those found here. The animal found in Britain and Ireland is the North American mink, an invasive import that has been all too successful. Both animals are similar but, while the American mink has a white chin, its European counterpart has white on the upper lips as well.
