EDITOR’S CHOICE Yes, there is life after ‘Isidingo’

THERE is never a dull moment with the revolving door of showbiz. When one closes, another opens. That is exactly what happened on SABC3 (which has rebranded and is now S3).

After 21 years on air, Isidingo ended in March last year. The drop in viewership numbers sounded the death knell for the show.

That said, the turn of events paved the way for a new offering, one that is more aligned with the trends in TV at the moment. Yes, the channel finally joined the telenovela bandwagon with The Estate.

I have to admit, the stellar cast has me – along with hordes of viewers – giddy with excitement.

That it is helmed by Clive Morris Productions, who are also behind BET’s first telenovela, Isono, is an added incentive to tune in.

The Estate features Sdumo Mtshali, Jo-Anne Reyneke, Linda Sebezo, Aubrey Poo, Don Mlangeni, Clementine Mosimane, Jacques Blignaut, Dineo Langa and Nadia Velvekens, to name a few.

The Estate centres on a gated community from Echelon Estate. Beyond the high-flying lifestyles of the residents, there’s tension with the Thembalethu township community which comes to a dramatic conclusion.

The Estate kicks off with a double bill tomorrow, at 7pm.
