Hoard Likely Hidden Out of Fear
On August 29, 1526 Hungary and its allies faced off against Suleiman “the Magnificent” and his Ottoman army at the Battle of Mohács. The Ottoman’s subsequent victory would lead to the partition of the Kingdom of Hungary. For several centuries parts of the region would be ruled by the Ottoman’s, Habsburg dynasty, or the Principality of Transylvania.
