Railmotor No. 1
xperimental railmotors were first introduced into NSW in 1919, when a modified five-ton Moreland truck was stripped of its road wheels and lengthened so a wooden body, built in the style of the end platform suburban cars, could be fitted. Rail wheels were attached to the rear axle and a small two-axle bogie was mounted at the front (see photo 1). To enable carriage of additional items, an LC trailer van with a guard’s compartment and side-ducket look-outs was attached. The railmotor, capable of speeds up to 25 m.p.h., gave six years of reliable service before being withdrawn in).
