I have never been much of a believer in the “one right way” of doing things. I like to have a choice of approaches to choose from — then, if one fails, another can be tried. So while I accept that modern thermal imaging and night-vision gear have revolutionised fox control, I still feel the need for snares as part of the armoury. The lamp-shy fox that turns tail and runs owing to a near miss when spotlighted before is now rare, but that is not the only reason we need snares.
