SECRET PALACE TALKS The royals’ risky road forward

Released a day and a half after the TV interview with Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, that has shaken the monarchy, the 61-word statement from the Queen read, “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”

Her Majesty made sure she stressed her affection for her grandson and his family by ending with, “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”

For the Queen to even issue a statement like this is highly unusual. Normally she sticks to
