Tokomaru Bay

I look at the wharf stretching out into the corner of the bay and wonder how much longer it will last. The sea has been battering this old wharf since the freezing works closed in 1952 and the ships stopped coming here.

It is tucked into the corner under mudstone cliffs and even on a good day there is a swell working the old wooden pilings that now sway with the movement of the sea and loosen the thick boards on the top. You can pull the long handmade nails out of the boards as the sea
