Another fine mesh!

Having got the carbs mounted in the right place, back in part five meant that I could think about air-filters. No problem, just another job!

I started by looking everywhere for an aftermarket solution, cars and bikes, nothing suitable. Running without filters was not going to be an option; again trying to factor in some engine longevity, I didn’t want crap being sucked into those air-gulping 38mm mouths!

James at BDK had given me some offcuts of air-filter foam. This appears to have two layers and a quick suck and blow test (ahem) seemed to indicate very little resistance to the passage of air: ideal. Initially I thought of making an air-box, but space and fitting fairly quickly precluded this idea. Simple, I thought, I’ll just make a ‘sock’ and secure it
