ilmed in “a secret abandoned basement of bone-chilling death”, Texan death metallers Frozen Soul channel their also features eyeball-bothering VHS-style picture wobbles, wonderfully barmy “commercials” and is hosted by their mascot of sorts, Mr Wraith Of Death (who looks like Leatherface and whose jokes are as bad as his rendition of Miley Cyrus’s – yes, you’ve guessed it – ). Creative, knowingly corny and, vitally, loaded with cranium-cracking riffs, you can tell the band had a blast making this. Performing in a “metal meat-locker of frozen madness”, i.e. an industrial freezer festooned with chains and (hopefully) fake human remains, they blast through their short but sweet set in a bid to raise the temperature to the required 666˚. Single is monstrous and drummer Matt Dennard dazzles throughout, while is an Obituary- and Bolt Thrower-informed bowel-rattler. We can’t wait to see what the quintet (and of course Mr Wraith) have up their sleeves for episode two.
